Laserforce is dedicated to offering a player experience like none other. Our arena music project will bump your laser tag game to a whole new level, featuring a laser tag marshal and up-and-coming DJ that produced an exclusive Laserforce arena sound track to rock the arena.
DJ Calkins, from Loveland, Colorado, is an emerging music producer that has his targets on immersive arena music with an up-beat EDM foundation; it’s an energetic vibe that compliments the Laserforce gameplay surprisingly well. Calkins first started playing laser tag around the age of eight at a local Laserforce arena with his dad. He was especially interested in this location because of the unique laser tag membership experience. He quickly started collecting achievements, regularly attending league nights and eventually landing a weekend job working where he grew up playing.
“When I was marshaling laser tag games on busy Saturdays, I would often pay attention to the music that was playing in the arena and I would wonder how I could improve the game experience”
After some experimenting and mixing, he found confidence to show Jeff Willy, Laserforce Chief of Global Operations, his ideas on the laser tag inspired music. Fast forward a couple months, Calkin’s Gen8 laser tag system Laserforce arena album was born.
The entire project was targeted to fit the overall energetic and fun Laserforce game-play and complement all the intensity and atmosphere of playing standard and even special games. Calkins wanted to develop a retro video game feel with all the modern beats of EDM that every player can enjoy.
“Playing Laserforce really reminded me of playing a live action video game. So I wanted to bring the same feel into the music, so you’ll hear a lot of 8-bit retro sounds, like you would hear in early Mario games”,
The album features a variety of inspirations and sounds. Laser tag players can expect to hear some really energetic, blood-pumping fun, while some songs are more subtle in their approach but can subconsciously improve any laser tag arena atmosphere.
Calkins and Laserforce are offering the Gen8 album free to any Laserforce operator who is part of the Support & Upgrade Program to add to their arena. Calkins also has a donate button if you’d like to support his future work as he continues to develop uniquely wild sounds in his studio. Maybe one of your 2019 goals is to improve your laser tag player experience and bump up repeat play? Don’t overlook any element of the experience and make sure your arena music is as game-changing as your laser tag system.
